The Elvis Sandwich

Post by Cully » Thu May 28, 2015 11:40 pm

Read a few times that Elvis had a favorite sandwich - one which might have hastened his death if truth be told. fascinated I looked it up online and decided to try one for myself, just to have eaten like the KING. Made one on Sunday following closely the recipe he liked, which was as follows. Two slices of toasted bread, each layered with peanut butter and then spread with mashed banana, two slices of crispy bacon in the middle and then the whole thing fried on each side in butter.

I don't get it. I was expecting to taste something sublime - Elvis used to eat plates of ten or more at a time. I expected all of these things to combine in to some fabulous taste sensation. Newp. tasted like you'd expect, 4 separate flavors that didn't meld at all. Bacon and Banana? Urgh!

Well, he was after all rather heavily medicated most of the time, perhaps that had something to do with the craving

The whole sandwich is a tribute to transfats :)

I can see that :D
I once ate in an American diner down in Liverpool and have to admit I did not enjoy a pancake with syrup with bacon and eggs.
Mind you a vanilla milkshake and dip chips in it, pure heaven :D

I'm quite a fan of American style pancakes, bacon and maple syrup.

The "Elvis sandwich" sounds exceptionally unappealing however.
