They did have a really bad aphid infestation this year. That's happened before though...

One of my hop plants gets it every yr,, it really stunts its growth. it's the santiam type hop. but the others that are about 6-8 ft away never show any signs,
I'll try and post a pic of it tomorrow

You got a Santiam rhizome? Wow, it travelled far from home! :)

Kind of ironic, isn't it? I can grow high-alpha US stuff like that no problem, but struggle to keep my UK types alive (Fuggles, Northern Brewer, First Gold, etc). They all just plain grow best where they were born and raised, huh?

Yeh I got it from willingham's a few yrs back. The first 2yrs it grew and gave a few hops, but the last 3 it grows then gets stunted for a bit and looks really bad (for about 2 months) then the side shoots seem to grow and I get even fewer hops now. I did a smash with this hop once and I really liked it.

I wish I could sort out this problem it has.

Any thoughts, on what I can do ? Even if it is just dig it up and burn it. And go with the English casgade as it is really doing well. So many cones even if they are still v-small compared to my other (challenger)

Irish Fuggle at 55nl in tunnel. It's going to yield very nicely. On the sperrins and the ones outdoor have done next to nothing this year.

Next year I'll be planting a selection of cuttings guerilla style around a 2nd home in the much more suitable Wexford climate.

Anyone had a harvest yet? My fuggle and golding have both got small hops on them(and flowers) - the cascade and chinook are still small flowers.

My challenger are looking good, but the rest are all very small.

I did pick a chalanger cone, had a rub and a sniff. It smelt ok but as it was raining hard and it was sopping wet, I could not tell if it was papery

I have a casgade, it's the first yr I've had cones, so I don't know if it's early or later in the season you harvest.

Does anyone know if my hops will still be OK at the end of October as i'm away till then? It does'nt matter if not as they have taken a battering this year with the green fly and couple of caterpillars and couldn't see the point in killing the caterpillars as the plants were already done for.

Hops as in cones or plants ?. If it's hops I doubt it, but they maybe a later type. Plants, well you cut 'um back at some point of time.

It's not letting me post an image (is that a new user thing?), but here is my first year cascade, very happy to be getting some cones from it already! http://s29.postimg.org/o0fv3r4uv/20150827_131034.jpg
