Priming sugar for bottling.

Post by carpet19 » Fri Jul 13, 2007 1:56 pm

I,m trying my hand at Wheelers recipe for Newcastle brown ale, my question is about the quantity of priming sugars to add prior to bottling. I use Beersmith and it says to use 142 grams of priming sugar which i feel is a high amount. What is the general rule of thumb concerning priming sugar amounts for bottling a 5 gallon batch. would appreciate any advice. Cheers.

I would personally use half that amount for a brown ale :)

A slightly different approach but I just put a half tsp into each bottle before filling.
