7 beers 2 men 1 day ( Slovenian hops)
7 beers 2 men 1 day ( Slovenian hops)
Today is the inaugural first joint brew of
Demig and F00b3r.
Today we are attempting 7 beers in one day. Beer one is a Sarah Hughes Ruby Mild Graham Wheeler recipe. The other is a base test beer we are splitting into 6 to test the Slovenian hops I recently won from Geterbrewed. Each will have a different hop in and this will let us evaluate the hops and also do some blending of the beers with a view to developing a nice Slovenian beer.
We are off and running with the Sarah Hughes mild. The brews will be staggered and it will all get frantic!

Looks good wait until you open the cardinal oh my word
Re: 7 beers 2 men 1 day ( Slovenian hops)
One mistake so far. It's Biab but where's the bag.... That's right it's not in the boiler
Looking forward to the opening that now!

Second beer is mashing, first beer is just coming to the boil. Getting hectic so will add recipes etc in later:) we had a nightmare transferring wort around to get boiler clean after failing to use the bag but all going reasonably well
Re: 7 beers 2 men 1 day ( Slovenian hops)
Wort for the Slovenian beers has been taken out of the buffalo and is on the stove ready for hop additions. First 3 beers are with :
All going reasonable well, one lesson learnt don't take a pan of boiling wort by the base when F00b3r passes it to you.

Looking fantastic can't wait to here how its going on
Re: 7 beers 2 men 1 day ( Slovenian hops)
It was a long day but despite a couple of mistakes like not putting the bag in the first boiler before mashing in (thank goodness I have fermenters that you can put hot wort into!) we came good and the beers are all in the fridge fermenting away. We will update the thread with pics and more detail later. Two people definitely makes for an easier and fun day
Re: 7 beers 2 men 1 day ( Slovenian hops)
I blame the brewing on Grainfather before for making me forget the bag, thanks goodness for having HDPE fermenters and a 5L jug as it meant it was a relatively quick job to line a fermenter with the BIAB bag, fill, pull the bag, jet out the Buffalo and then transfer the wort ready back for boiling! I won't be nattering away forgetting to do that again!
Here are some more pics:
75L of water treated the night before ready for brew day along with the Hop Test Bitter grist weighed out and warming up:
The Slovenian hopped beers tucked up in the fermentation chamber (the Cascade being the last had a lot more trub/break material in it):
21L of the Sarah Hughes' Dark Ruby Mild tucked up in the fermentation chamber:
Early signs of fermentation:
12 hours after pitching:
40 hours after pitching:
Using a sterilised syringe I drew wort from just under the Sarah Hughes' krausen and transferred it to a sterilised pet bottle and then let this ferment out, within a few hours I could see a nice yeast sediment forming at the bottom; this is now stored in the fridge and should provide a good source for a new starter of WLP005. IPA posted this method over on the craft brewing.org forum and it seems a fantastic way to harvest yeast (also if something goes wrong I can always harvest from the yeast cake)
Doing so many beers definitely added a long time to the day but it should be great to have a range of beers to taste and it is definitely more fun brewing with two.
The good thing is that I also am being sent some of the Slovenian hops from the promotion run on here so we will definitely make something else with them too.
Really looking forward to trying the Sarah Hughes beer as well as it gets such rave reviews.
