My brews have been getting better with experience and improved gear
However I got a regular problem

The beers that I bottle are ok and rally nice but if I barrel them after the first blast of sugar generated pressure they settle down to a flat beer whilst being ok for taste I would like some life in the beer.
I use King Keg & budget but I do not think it is a loss of pressure due to leakage.
I Use sofa siphon gas to get the beer from the Barrel

How can I cure my problem


I have just a aquired/purchased a 60% CO2 / 40 NCO2 Gas bottle.
If I connected this to the barrel would the beer over a period of time absorb the gas and give it more Life :!: :!:
I have a SO4 Gas inlet valve how would I connect

What sort of barrel is it B :?:

If it's plastic I'd be very careful about attaching a regular cylinder to it due to the pressures involved.

I have never used plastic barrels with cylinders but I'd hold fire ti'll someone who has can advise :wink:

I'd certainly say you'd need a regulator to start with :!:

EDIT, I don't think king keg or budget can be used, definately without a regulator.

A standard C02 cylinder can pressurise to 800psi yet even corny's are only tested to just over 100 psi....definately hold fire :shock:

Cornies seem to be the thing but I for some unknown reason would like to find an alternative instead.
After all from my inquiries cornies have been superseded as a system

Why cannot a dip tube be inserted into the standard pressure barrel and a suitable tap be found (still Searching)

The normal barrels supplied must surly be pressure tested to at least 100PSI

Maybe they are but a C02 cylinder exerts a pressure of 800 psi and would make short work of one if connected direct.

Thay have by bag in a box...This is something I'm still struggling with especially from a carbon footprint point of view.
The bag in a box is throw away after initial use. Some of my cornies are almost 40 years old....

How can bag in the box be more environmentally friendly than this....simple answer..they can't but in todays throw away society :evil:

For the home brewer the bag in the box option isn't exactly an option anyway, and besides it's not as shiny :wink:

Belto the answer to your problems I believe, whilst retaining the use of the plastic barrels, is to get hold of a hand pump and sparkler. The regular taps and sparklers only work under heigh pressure but with a hand pump you enliven the beer with every pull. It would just be a case of re-pressurising the keg with CO2 after an evenings drinking.

my dads been using one of these for years at the moment he has it piped to 2 barrels but can disconnect one or other at any time hes got a king keg a boots barrel and some cheapo one i cant remember and hes never had any rouble he used it for a while without a presure clock on just used to give the barrel a one second blast when the beer went flat but he has got a presure safty valve on just in case

Today I have been injecting from my Soda siphon at regular intervals hoping that the gas will be absorbed into the beer to give it some fizz.

Drawing a jug off tonight all I got was a jug of froth and when it settled down it was still flat
I must be brewing my beer wrong or making some mistake, it tastes ok but I would like a little action in the beer.

Any ideas :?: :(

This was not a good brew day,
The immersion would not heat to rolling boil so has to transfer to old boiler
The Mash Tun also would not run off with a collapsed pipe
All these have now been redesigned
The beer was a standard London Pride

i'm no expert but as far as i know beer will absord c02 over a period and not over one day. Give it a week and only one good shot a day and maybe a shake if there's no oxyegen inside. It sounds like you just filled the vacuum with gas
