Re: New yeast!!
Are there any new strains there or are they just more expensive versions of the existing White Labs and Wyeast strains?

Re: New yeast!!
I think they're all pretty unusual - including a lot of sour/farmhouse blends which have lots more genetic variation than brewing yeast.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

They'd need to be special for that price. And going up against established competition too

Re: New yeast!!
Whenever I've bought liquid yeast it's ended up costing less than dry by the time I've reused it. They're selling on the benefit of not having to make a starter, which I can see as being a benefit in the blends, but not so much in the single strain packs.McMullan wrote:They'd need to be special for that price. Re: New yeast!!
Well they have double the cell count at point of production . . . . by the time they get to the UK ?????
Frankly I prefer the slants from Brewlabs, I just ring Alison and say I'm brewing a beer like X, do you have a yeast similar to the one the Brewery used? Not let me down yet.

+1 Aleman
I guess some people may not have the confidence to use slants, but it really is straightforward

Maybe we should have a slant guide on the forum.

Re: New yeast!!
What Aleman typed, with bells on it. This is the third new liquid yeast venture claiming they 'double' the cell count cf WLs and Wyeast. After a month or two, even at fridge temps, I know there are more viable yeast surviving happily on a slant. The liquid yeast industry has offered great brewing strains for home brewers, but the 'pitchable from the pack' claims are nonsense more often than not. My rant for the day
