I'm off.
Took ages to get right temp in mash tun.
Its all in now.
This is so much harder than u think.
Made a mistake straight away. Didn't put my manifold in the tun.
Lucky the temp was wrong and I had to adjust. Otherwise I would have doughed in without it

The first one sure can throw up a few curve balls. I can recall mine well! They get easier and require less babysitting- now I tend to brew one whilst bottling the previous beer at the same time. It's busy but not undoable.
Anyway - Good luck! If you get something drinkable you've done well!
Is that the Greg Hughes summer ale? Tasty beer if so. For me it could do with a little dry hopping but I think that's mostly because it takes a while to chill down my beer despite of the I.C. cooler because I brew at the end of the garden and the water warms up a bit as it goes down the garden in a hose...

The og is 1.040 I don't really know if that's good or not. Or if that was what I was supposed to get.
I need to learn about efficiency etc.
How do I predict the alcohol %

OG 1.040 minus FG ( say ) 1.012 = 28 divide by 7.45 = 3.75% ABV
There are more accurate methods but I find that very close and its easy

What was your recipie? ...do you know what you were aiming for ?
The aim of today should be to primarily to get beer, work out your equipment, and learn .I've done a lot of AG brews up to 2000l and yesterday I had a fight with new equipment..
It rarely goes entirely to plan.

Well done!
You would normally expect the beer to drop to a "quarter" of the original points when fermentation is finished.
e.g with an OG of 1040 you would expect the FG to be about 1010. 40/4 = 10.
So if you get a FG of 1010 expect about 4% ABV.
There are plenty of calculators online.
