Best Quality BIAB bags

Post by bigchris » Sun Oct 29, 2017 9:39 pm

I've been selling these for over three years now, and improving the design bit by bit based on my own brewing experience. I'm now using a bag with a conical shaped lower half which makes draining quite a bit better.

During my time brewing I've done a lot of reading and some writing on Jim's so thought I'd give a little back.

Hi Pete,

Yes, still available but I don't keep stock of that size (perhaps I ought to). Always do my stitching at the weekend so if you want one I can post one Saturday.

18kg grain bill I couldn't lift it, needed to rig up a sky hook with my kayak rescue gear.

Bag never complained.

Great piece of kit

Hi Chris, have you considered doing a square bag for an igloo cube cooler? I'd be interested!

The bags I make are not round at all, and work perfectly well in square or rectangular coolers. I've tried a few times, doing a 3v brew and using one of my bags in the mash tun. Works really well, makes cleaning at the end a bit easier.

A handy advantage is that if one gets a stuck mash then by lifting the bag a little the congestion in the grain bed can be unsettled easily and the flow resumes. When this happened I recirculated the first few jugfuls back onto the top of the grain bed for clarity and the let it carry on flowing.

Judging the size of bag needed is a little different. Measure around the outside of the top of the cooler, with a tape measure and divide the result by Pi (3.14) will give the equivalent 'diameter then order a bag to suit.'
