Kettle elements
Anyone used the cheap chinese elements from ebay like this
https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-220V-1-5KW- ... Sw6~VZ3NhN
Im thinking of putting one in a hlt for about 20-30 litres of water to take from 52c to 75 c. Once i have that do i just need a hole and a hot condition lead ? Is there a way around hot condition leads as i here the pins are unreliable

Re: Kettle elements
A proper hot condition lead will have a notch in the connector. Like this one: https://www.lindy.co.uk/cables-adapters ... lack-p9230
Most of thlse supplied with 2.4kw elements haven't been like that and I've melted a few.
After the last one I got one of the proper C15 hot rated cables from Lindy as linked to above, and have not had issues in 10 brews since.

Re: Kettle elements
I notice the brewbuilder and angel both sell hot condition plugs. These must as good as the lindy ones suppose it depends on p n p after that point
Re: Kettle elements
I used exactly 1 of those years ago, I can't remember but I don't think it comes with a seal you can use the seal from a £5 kettle but then you mat as well use the element from it as well.

Re: Kettle elements
What size hole is it and what sort of seal does it need
Re: Kettle elements
I use a couple or rewireable sockets on my plastic boiler. As they unscrew you can get access to tighten the contacts. Search for "C15 rewireable".
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

Re: Kettle elements
The ones that melted came from them, and didn't have the notch in them that a proper C15 hot rated connector will, although this was 18 months ago and they may have improved since then.

Re: Kettle elements
Thats very poor service and if i order one from them and it fails to come with a notch then ill ask for a refund as it clearly wont be fit for purpose. Just thinking if im ordering parts from one place i may as well save postage cost
Re: Kettle elements
Interesting, I had one from brewbuilder, with a notch though, but that too melted after a few brews, I though I was just unlucky.

Re: Kettle elements
Hmm. Who knows then.
The Lindy ones have been good, and when I disconnect them they're never hot (unlike the old leads, which would get quite warm).

Re: Kettle elements
The hot condition leads are not meant to be used with extensions, was it plugged straight into the wall Oz?
