Small form-factor chassis mount connectors 32A?

Post by chris2012 » Sat Feb 17, 2018 12:16 pm

I'm just wondering, I have some 32A sockets in the shed, but say I want to give a bit shy of 32A out of a control panel
what kind of panel mount options are there.

I was looking at the Neutrik ones, but I've been told they don't have 32A out, chassis mount connectors, can anyone recommend any other options, I had a little look on Farnell but didn't really notice anything.

I guess I could use a panel mount standard 32A socket as a last resort?

Cheers

neutrik do 32a connectors rated for 250v 1ø mains, safety earth. dunno what size they are but i'd reckon a fair bit smaller than the industrial ones.

I too have only found power-in chassis sockets for neutrik's 32 amp range, though it does seem a bit odd.

The cee-form/commando type sockets will be more compatible with stuff though - say you wanted to plug a kettle directly into a cee-form wall socket instead of the controller, or something like that. If you can't afford that much panel space then perhaps you could let out a short lead (via a cable gland and restraint), with a line socket on that.

yeah the neutrik are only power in alas.

yeah that's a good point with respect to the commando sockets, and yeah you could plug the element into the wall too then.

i think that sounds the best option i guess.

one question regarding commando sockets, can you use something like a commando device, to provide power in to a control panel?
as the commando sockets are for power out aren't they.

In cee-form you can get line and chassis connectors in both genders, so a there should be no problem if I understand you correctly. For instance a generator will have female chassis sockets as an outlet, whilst an appliance will have male chassis (or line) plugs as an inlet.

EDIT: for what its worth I use 2x separate circuits and so 2x separate connectors all the way through, to make it compatible with a domestic kitchen supply. Another way in an industrial setting may be to have the inlet 32A and split that to two 16A outlets. But both these approaches only work IF you are powering separate elements/appliances none of which need more than 16A.

Oh neat cheers, I didn't know you could get female/male cee-form, cool. This sounds like probably the best route then for me, just need a box
big enough.

Though of course (as they exist) you could still have the inlet being a smaller neutrik type if you wished, or even a permanently connected lead like many appliances.

ah sorry i think i get you now. are you saying you need just under 32A to a single outlet? or just a little more than 16A?

Sorry to clarify, I have some 26A elements. The neutriks only have 32A in alas, not 32A out for the elements etc.
