Tilt hydrometer/thermometer
There's a very strong possibility my next Malt Miller order will include a Tilt hydrometer/thermometer. Now in mark 2 form.
I don't need one, it probably won't improve my beer, but I REALLY, REALLY WANT ONE!!! No new brewing toys have come my way for some months now. This is a lamentable situation and needs to be corrected.
What do people who use a Tilt think of it? One post I found on here suggested it could have it's readings compromised by CO2 bubbles sticking to it during fermentation and affecting its 'tilt'!

Re: Tilt hydrometer/thermometer
I have the v1.1 and absolutely love it. I did buy it on a whim but it is really is part of my whole process now and I would really miss brewing without it.
I have never had any issues with accuracy except occasionally during crash cooling, but I only do this at the end of fermentation anyway. It has always been within a point of my finishing hydrometer.
The insight it gives you into how your fermentation is proceeding is great and let's you ramp the temperature to finish things up when it is appropriate.

Please don't make me want / need one of these...

But they are lovely, tell you things you didn't know before and can make graphs. And now it's in a mark 2 version it's even better.
And they have a really nice circuit board you can see!
Go on, you know you want one!

Ok you have convinced me. Just make it a bit cheaper please!

Can't help there. £144 from The Malt Miller is the best I've seen.
Bundled with the usual purchases, malt, hops etc, there's not even a shipping cost.
Go on. Do it. Do it now!

Re: Tilt hydrometer/thermometer
I have the red one. I have just put it in my 7 gal chronical fermenter about 4 hours ago. In terms of use i am very happy with it. I have a temperature
Probe in the fermenter and it matches that. The gravity readings seem consistant with hydrometer readings taken along side it. Of course its nice to see the gravity changing over time without having to take actual samples.
Next for me is to get one of my spare raspberry pi's to trend the temperature and gravity.

Check out http://braumagazin.de/article/ispindel-der-aufbau/ if you want a cheaper version, like £30 or so. It uses wifi rather than bluetooth so the results are available anywhere.

Blimey, that all looks a bit complicated! Think I'll stay with a ready made one.

Re: Tilt hydrometer/thermometer
I've done about 3 or 4 brews with mine. Initially it didn't work properly as it was fouling on my internal chiller coil. Now after making sure I place it on the outside of the coil it is working fine. I must admit I thought it was a bit of a fad but now find it really useful to keep track of the fermentation, especially to see when it has ended, saves taking loads of samples.

There's English documentation at:

If anyone wants to give this ago I will happily 3D print the main part and send it on the condition you document how you got it working PM me.
