Mangrove Jack Hop Spider

Post by Midlife » Wed Apr 04, 2018 6:47 pm

Hello, does anyone use hop pellets with a mangrove jacks hop spider? Does the mesh keep it all in?

I’ve been using leaf but now started doing dry hopping with pellets, so I want to use just pellets for the boil and dry hopping to make things easier.

I wasn’t sure where to post so I have also added one in "Hops"

Cheers.

Hi,

I use that hop spider with my Grainfather. It keeps most of the hop debris from pellets inside, but not all. I think that is a reasonable trade-off for good wort flow and (for me) a noticeable increase in hop utilisation compared with a finer one I used previously.

Regards,

Matt

I used to have one but returned it as I found too much debris was getting through the 800 mesh. Swapped it for tho 200 micron one that Rob sells. Was worried at first that 200 would be too fine but I've not had any problem with it and it catches most of the debris. I've even removed the bazooka filter from my ace and just use the spider now

Cheers. Tom
