Hi, I used WLP830 German lager yeast last week for a Munich Helles type beer. It has been at 10c for 5 days and is already down from 1045 to 1014 which I was surprised with. I've never used a true lager yeast strain before so just wondered what people's thoughts were?
Thanks
Wlp830 quick fermentation
Re: Wlp830 quick fermentation
I don't use lager yeast much (in fact I've not used any for decades!) but that would have surprised me as well. I would have thought the fermentation would have been slower.
Any regular lager makers care to comment?

I have no experience of that yeast , but have had a couple of lagers go low early, I'd still give them another week or 2 to be sure. What does it taste like?

Tasted great. FG was 1012 5 days later as predicted in beersmith. I raised the temperature to 19c for 5 days which took it from 1014 to 1012 before chilling. I pitched a very healthy large yeast stater, but still very surprised at the speed of it!

Re: Wlp830 quick fermentation
The rate of fermentation & short lag time characteristics are one of the reasons that it's used by so many breweries.
