Mango IPA

Post by MuckyFunster » Tue Jul 17, 2018 12:59 pm

Has anyone ever tried to make an IPA using Rubicon fresh mango juice?

Pondering making a gallon batch to test it out.

Extract, ideally, as my knowledge, experience and equipment is limited.

There's purée available in Morrisons etc, Indian section. Most use that - pre sterilised and nice and thick.

I take it I can just divide that recipe by 3 in order to make a 5 litre batch? I do t have a pot big enough for 15 litres! Lucky if I can fit 5l into my biggest pot.

It might be easier if I just got an IPA kit and dump some of this mango purée into it

I did a Mango Milkshake IPA last year with about 3kg of Mango chunks "dry hopped" in a hop bag in the fermenter. Would not recommend. It was barely mango at all on the nose and even less in taste. Abbey homebrew did the same but mushed up the mango chunks and that seemed to work. I'm keen to hear how it goes if anyone tries juice.

Puree the mangos - that pretty much goes for any fruit.

Or buy ready made puree.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

I like the sound of Manga IPA!
Is it "safe" to add fresh fruit straight to the secondary in terms of infection risk?

be sure it's sterilised. (look for mango puree in the supermarket or Metro)
the alcohol content in the secondary should manage minor issues.
