Purity Pure UBU
Purity Pure UBU
Had a pint of this at the weekend at a show and it was bloody lovely. It's been spoken about on here before and I was wondering if anybody managed a passable clone?

Nope. I think it's cack !
I buy from The Malt Miller
There's Howard Hughes in blue suede shoes, smiling at the majorettes smoking Winston cigarettes. .
Re: Purity Pure UBU
This is a wierd one I attempted a clone of this but it just had too much Crystal Malt in it for me. Then I went to a local that had it on and my clone wasnt actually far off it and didnt like it. But I've had UBU before about a year ago and absolutely loved it so either my taste has changed or theyve changed their recipe!

UBU Clone:-
23l
4.5Kg Maris Otter
250g Crystal 120 (WAYYYYYYYY TO MUCH FOR ANY 23 litre batch in my book!)
250g Torrified Wheat
50g Challenger @ 90
50g Cascade @ 5
50g Challenger @ 5
50g Cascade @ flameout
Safale S04 and A whirfloc.
This aint my recipe btw and unless you absolutely LOVE the real stuff I would seriously recommend reducing the crystal to about 100g!!
Its nice and hoppy as you can see which I like but the crystal blows too much of the hop characteristic away leaving you with quite a bold toffee maltiness. (I guess its prob down to personal taste )

i sometimes use 250 grams of crystal and 250 grams of caragold in 40 litres it makes good beer. got a continually hopped ale with columbus and chinook with the said amount of caragold and crystal. its the best beer i have made by far....

Enjoyed several bottles of this at the weekend, didn’t recognise the hop mix, but suspected cascade in there.wjohnson12321 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2012 11:41 amUBU Clone:-

The recipe may have changed, but the purity brewing bottle was quoted on the website as having these ingredients :
Pure UBU (4.5% ABV, IBU36) is a distinctive, full flavoured beer with a sweeter finish. Brewed with English Maris Otter, Crystal, and Wheat malts, with Pilgrim and Cascade hops.
I don’t recall having had pilgrim before, but really quite enjoyed it.
Any updated recipes?

I’ve only had the Purity beers they stock in supermarkets but have enjoyed both the pale and amber beers on numerous occasions.

Pilgrim's probably being used as a bittering hop - Cloudwater use Pilgrim extract pretty extensively, it's used to bitter all their DIPAs for instance. So don't sweat the Pilgrim thing.
UBU's OK, Pure Gold in cask is lovely if on form.

The taste of pure gold reminds me of the moseley music festivals. As the weakest beer on the bar i get through a few pints on festival days, long summer days with great bands playing.Northern Brewer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 4:21 amPilgrim's probably being used as a bittering hop - Cloudwater use Pilgrim extract pretty extensively, it's used to bitter all their DIPAs for instance.
