What's the latest recommendation on a Lager Kit?
Have been all-grain for a while but need to put a lager on for early Spring and trying to avoid tying up the brew fridge. What's the latest 'best-buy' in terms of quality and as near true lager quality as possible rather than (but not ignoring!) the cost factor?

Not sure that grain v extract affects the beer fridge, once you have wort then yeast becomes the main determinant? Have a look at this thread : https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/thre ... ad.592169/ - people claim to be getting some pretty good results from lagers brewed at ale-ish temperatures, it's just a question of what yeast you use. Mangrove Jack M54 Californian seems to be the favourite, WLP800 and S-189 are also popular, 34/70 is OK taste-wise but doesn't drop as cleanly. I suspect any Californian lager yeast would do.

Just to clarify, wanted a quick easy solution rather than having to order in all the ingreients for a lager - none of which I have to hand. I mentioned the fridge simply because I don't want it tied up for weeks lagering so M54 or similar looks the route to go..Northern Brewer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 4:36 amNot sure that grain v extract affects the beer fridge, once you have wort then yeast becomes the main determinant?

M54 has worked very well for me.

Not a lager brewer but the MJ helles/pils kits look pretty good to me. Enjoyed the coopers mexican lager when i had it too to be honest, and i was surprised how clean it tasted for a sugar/ale yeast combo

I think I did a Coopers Canadian which turned out fairly crisp and light IIRC.
Are you actually going to lager? I guess this will be the biggest factor as most kits use ale yeast don’t they?

Best to ask on the home brew forum there are more kit brewers there.
