Fermentation temp control

Post by ridleyrumpus » Wed Feb 06, 2019 5:27 pm

I have built a fermentation fridge, which is great for 5 gallons but now I am planning on brewing bigger batches the fermentation vessel will not fit inside.

I have bought s/h a conical fermenter that I thought would fit into a tall larder fridge but is ever so slightly too deep for the fridge. Now I could try to hack away at the fridges insulation but I am not sure that that would work.

I have looked at some of the commercial display type fridges and some of those look like internally they are big enough but invariably come with a light box on top that makes them too tall to fit into the room I have available.

So what are my alternatives? What do other people do?

What make of conical is it? Could you fit a cooling coil inside it and an insulating jacket?

I don't know as I bought it S/H and I haven't seen any identifying marks.

I could do that, but would prefer not to, besides what about if the wort was too cold?

Thermostat!!

Any chance of a photo to try to work out what make it is?

Fermentation 'fridges are ok, but internal cooling is loads better.

I think you think that I am intending to leave the cooler on permanently, no.

What I meant was if the, say, ST1000 thinks the wort is too cold in my fermentation fridge it turns on the tube heater. Too hot it turns on the fridge.

But won't there be a problem if all you have is a chiller and no heater?

OK according to the FAQ there should be an icon here to attach an image, have things changed or am I just being thick?

I think you have to have 6 posts under your belt before you can post pictures. You're close!

Could you cut the legs and shorten them a bit to have it fit in your existing fridge? could probably jerry rig some cross beams higher up on the legs...depends if you want to DIY it though
