Not shiny enough. I wraped my BM with a camping mat, The beer was shiny enough for me.

The Klarsein arrived just now, And I have to say,
The build quality is really good. The stainless steel is very nice and the boiler has a double wall.
I'll do a brew after the weekend and update this post.

I did a small brew with the Klarstein, It’s not as good as a BM, But its pretty good, I think I will be using it for all of my small batches. Its very quick and easy to use and clean up.

The element is switch able between 1500w and 3000w, and so will heat up really quickly.
The element is below the bottom of the boiler and therefore susceptible to burning anything solid that sits on it, So step mashing may be difficult.
But if you set a strike temperature and add the grain bill. Its fine, Switch to 1500w and it will hold the set temperature. I did recirculate a few jugs from the tap and returned to the malt tube and stirred with a paddle. Its fine.
As a boiler it’s really good. It is double walled and therefore doesn’t burn you if you touch the outside and also helps to insulate and stabilize the temperature.
I did a 15L brew using only the 1500w element on. Quite a vigorous boil was achieved. You don’t even have to bother programming in anything.
Just adjust the temp up of down and leave it alone and its starts to heat etc.
I found that I did not need or want a pump.
I did empty the wort into an Fv through a sieve before boiling to see how much debris was in the bottom. I did this to prevent burning on the element and risking a cut out. All was fine.
As it was only a small brew at 15L, And because the lid can be quite securely clipped on. I was able to carry it outside for the boil. Saving me needing to worry about boil overs or steam.
I hit my targets for this brew, in fact It’s an exact replica of a 15L brew I did last week on my BM. I will compare them both to see if there’s anything to add to this report, but I don’t think there will be anything.
As with any new kit, you need to learn how best to use it.

(Just to add. The only things I needed to add was a paddle to stir, and a hop spider and hop pellets. No hop filter needed. After cooling, 30mins to drop clear and run off to fv. Wort was crystal clear. I already have an immersion cooler and used that, but the one supplied is stainless and looked good quality)

It works it’s a bargain.

Thanks posting about this Norm.

It’s seriously tempting. If only it were slightly bigger to enable it to boil down to 23 litres for a king keg!

Just a quick question, as I could make slightly smaller batches - do you think it would be possible/advisable to boil the wort using the grain pipe in it as a hop filter? I have a bazooka type filter in my current burco boiler but i can’t see how you could use that if the grain tube were already in place for the mash. Could buy a hop spider, just curious.

Hi Dave

I think you would be ok with 23L. I'll measure the exact capacity of the boiler.
I don’t think you could use the grain basket as a hop filter, You could try.
I would recommend a hop spider, I have a couple of the cheap ones and there fine. Around £13 I think.
If using pellets and a hop spider, No bazooka filter is needed.

Hi Norm, i’ve Done a bit of googling and it seems to hold 25 litres plus some reasonable headspace so it looks like a brew length of 23 litres is possible (perhaps topping up with boiled water at the end).

Just one other quick question. You say that step mashing would be difficult, which is fine for me as this is something I have no intention of doing. However if I missed my mash temp presumably it would be no problem to raise the temp a few degrees? This seems to be a key advantage of a system like this I would have thought. Does it have little feet on the bottom of the malt tube to keep it off the bottom and prevent the grain getting very close to the element?

Thanks again for posting about this :)

Hi Dave

I've just measured the capacity. 26L from empty to the max marking, Then another 5 and a half liters to the brim.
23L should be fine.
If the mash temp drops the element is switched back on until it reaches the mash temp again. You should recirculate a few jugs and stir.
Yes it does have little feet on the bottom of the malt pipe.

Please note, I did not want one with a pump. You may want to consider, if you want a pump or not to recirculate.
For me it only needs a few jugs and a stir, I dont need a pump to recirculate.
Remember I also use a BM almost every week. I've done well over 200 brews on that.
I think this is good kit, And well worth the money.

I've just seen that you are in Whitley Bay. If you want to come and give it a look or try it, just PM me.

Hi Norm, thanks for the info - going to buy one!

Sounds perfect for my needs and a bargain at the price! I quite like the idea that it has no pump.

I’ll report back on the forum on my first brew with it!

Let me know if you are ever in Whitley Bay Area and I’ll buy you a pint!

Hi, sounds like you’re impressed with this Klarstein- or on commission.

Just ordered this for £127.49, https://www.hifi-tower.co.uk/Home-Livin ... gKzIvD_BwE ,with discount and may also get the one you have. Idea being, a dedicated mashtun and the other for spargewater / copper. Have a pump on the way for initial re-circ and sparging

Already have a diy 3 vessel system which has worked great for 10 years, feel it’s time to upgrade a bit but don’t want a one pot system- probably fine while everything functions ok, but no redundancy if anything fails.

Looks like it's down in price again, just been on and it's £166 now

Well, I bought one!

I found this video useful about the Brewers Edge Mash and Boil, which looks either the same or similar as Norm says:
