Ah … thanks. Good point about threads, US use NPT not BSP so getting adapters will be more difficult over here (and at 1/4" the two threads are not even closely compatible).Trefoyl wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 2:53 pmI let the pressure out of the keg by lifting the safety valve before connecting, otherwise beer will rush up into the gas hose. When that happens the excess gas pressure dramatically hisses out which is very startling. Then I need to replace that section of hose, so it’s a mistake I don’t repeat very often.
I would not recommend buying this model from the US, wouldn’t the pipe thread be different? Not worth the trouble and expense.
That process is "venting" and needs to be done to any "cask" style beer before serving, can't avoid it really. I try to simplify it using "bubble counters" (see my article and the piccies in this thread*). The trouble with using the safety valve is it's too quick and the pressure will probably just build again as gas comes out of solution. The other problem using the safety valve is you might overdo it and pop the Corny O-ring seals.
And before I get any fingers wagged at me: I know Corny kegs are not ideal for this purpose, but they can be made to work.
(EDIT: *Oops, sorry, piccies not in this thread but the thread I linked earlier in this thread).
