QUOTE (Vossy1 @ Aug 7 2006, 11:18 AM) Re reading RR's post he mashes in the cool box tun.
Do you simply load the cool box mash tun to strike temp with water and then add the grains, put the lid on and wait 90 min, then sparging?
What happens if the cool box doesn't maintain tempÂÂ
I was thinking of using the boiler to maintain temp
Yep, you got it in 1.
Add required amount of mash liquor (hot water) to the cool box/mash tun at a strike heat of @72'c.
Then add the reqired amount of grain as per recipe (all grains dry pre mixed).
Mix well to ensure no dry pockets & even temp distribution. Temp should settle to @ 66'c.
Fit lid. I wrap mine in a 4.5 TOG King Size duvet, coz that's what I have handy for insulation.
Left for 90 mins, I don't lose a single degree in heat.
Then after the 90 mins, fit spinny sparger with sparge water in my boiler at @80'c, open mash tun tap & watch that baby fly.
See Pics below: The pegs are to stop the spinny sparger going into auto rotation.

Oh yes, don't forget to place a collecting container under your mash tun tap though.
