Is it possible to use one of these to boil my wort http://www.leylandhomebrew.com/item586.htm and has anyone used one for this purpose? :?

Hi Colin,

Yes and yes! (not me though but people on here use that model or similar).

That, or similar (homemade versions), is what most AG brewers on this forum are using.

EDIT: Dooh. Beat me to the same answer by 1 minute!

Hi Colin, Yes that's what it's designed for . It's made of a plastic that doesn't warp under heat, well, not at the temps we need to use it at , anyway 8)

I'm using a home built jobby, identical, but white plastic, for my brews

You need to spend more time here, or you'll be dreaming about RIMS and HERMS systems (whatever they are??)

And it is because of these nasty forums that I ended up buying myself a 5 Gallon 'Better-Bottle'. Basically a plastic Carboy.

I will say that it certainly does have its advantages... I can EASILY attach a blow off tube (a must for those bigger beers or when reusing a yeast cake). I can see what is happening to my beer. It is really easy to aerate the wort (put cap on and shake and shake and shake some more). And that is probably it.

I think I will be using my bucket fermenter and bringing out the better-bottle for those times I need secondary fermenting (never have but will be for my next beer).

These things are a bitch to clean - especially the scum that sits JUST out of reach of my carboy brush....

I'll give that a go, thanks DaaB

Thikn that Citric Acid would be worthwhile? I've got some of that which I use for my elements.

There's a lot to be said for glass carboys... I have a couple and I doubt I could lager without them.

I'm with Daab on the RIMS & HERMS though, I don't even wanna know :x

Looks like Soda Crystals is the way to go :) Can I pick these up from my local Supermarket or is it a trip to the LHBS?
