Any sneaky tasters yet Stew?

It's technically not cheating if you drink the hydro sample jar

unfortunately not JP.

i've been so busy with other things that it's been sat in the fermenter now for 2.5 weeks feeling sorry for itself.

I took a look at it last night and erm, i think it's been in there too long cos there's weird fatty looking lumps floating on the surface. they're not the furry kind, but i've not seen that before.

any ideas?

I wouldn't be too concerned the yeast can end up making all sorts of strange shapes. 2.5 weeks isn't that long i routinely leave mine that long and they seem to be better for it.
Get a sample out though and taste it, you should know straight away if you have an infection (fingers crossed you don't).

okeydoke thanks guys :)

think i'd better make time to get it into a barrel tonight if it tastes ok.

because it's been stood around so long is it worth letting my syphon suck some of the sediment to kick some yeast back into suspension for priming?

In a word yes!!

Its what I do and I have had no problems  just rouse the yeast bed towards the end of the process and not at the begining
