1000 - Not out! Double brew weekend

Post by J_P » Fri Sep 14, 2007 10:54 am

To celebrate my 1000th post and to make up for the fact I've had to bin the "who dares wins" brew due to it being woefully under hopped courtesy of my boiler cutting out. I'm going to have a double brew weekend - woot!

First up will be a Jolly roger variant hopefully using WLP023.

Secondly will be an American / English crossover using Amarillo and Cascade hops I had a pint of something similar last night and it was cracking so I'm going to have a pop at making my own version. I'm unsure of which yeast to use for this one though, do I use something clean like US-05 or Danstar Nottingham to let the hops shine through or is there another more appropriate yeast?

Pictures will follow - first I am going to have to walk and feed the mutts then it'll be time to drag the brewery out of the shed! 8)

It's not a double brewday - I'm not up to that yet but I'll probably be brewing again on Saturday or Sunday 8)

Bugger, i was hoping that would have worked out well for you, it must indeed have been the boiler because any time i've done it the results have been great.
Better luck with the double brew this weekend, i'll keep any suggestions i have to myself in case i put the mockers on these brews as well.

It's been an ordeal so far - and I haven't even started the mash yet! Firstly I forgot the H&G wasn't open until tomorrow so the liquid yeast will have to wait until next weekend. Secondly I've spent around 3/4 hour dicking on with the boiler tap washer to stop a drip that seems to have developed!

Never mind it could be worse, I could be at work 8)

Edit: Sod it I'm going to chill me a beer!

Fingers crossed for your double.

How much longer do you reckon you will be brewing in the tent before you relocate to the greenhouse?

Sorry about the complete lack of documentation chaps, by the time I was done I was knackered and just blobbed out on the couch with a beer.

I have 20l of bubbling brown booze sat in the dining room, at 1050 it's a tad stronger than I'm used to but it'll get drunk!

I'll redeem myself with some pictures and documentation tomorrow - I promise
