I gave up brewing May, June, July & August due to the risk of losing them! I really must get myself a brewing fridge!Jim wrote:.....
I'm blaming the heat in the garage over June/July where they were stored as I've never had that happen before, mainly cos I don't usually brew that late in the year.
Bad times a brewing
i bought a load of bottles(ex magners i think) last month gave them a serious clean out and sterilise. Nonetheless when i was at home for a day last week i opened a bottle of my 80 schilling(nice carbonation) and poured the glass(all looking good), poured the dregs from the bottle down the drain and a bit of black lifeform about 3 by 5mm long slithered out right at the end. I'm sure yonder lifeform did not survive the sterilising process. All the same the pint went down the drain untouched and i've got another dozen 80 schilling or so that might be the same way.
Oh aye and 40 bottles of guiness clone as well..... Ah the joys, hope this helps to cheer you up, its not just you!

Straight down the drain, i was going offshore the next day after being home for 36hours so i couldn't risk my arse exploding on the next flight! It was the remains of black mould that i found in a number of the bottles(bought off ebay and industrial dishwashered apparently) and thought i had got rid of all of it(peered into bottles post clean/sterilise). In future i am going to buy a batch of 100 of this site, at least i know where i am and they're clean to start with. I'm not mad on magners bottles as they are a shade too dark to see fill level clearly through side every time when bottling. These bottles look like ones i have already which are just light enough to see clearly through. Apologies to OP for hijacking, sorry mate hope yer next batch is a cracker, personally i'd bottle it at 1020 and console myself with it in a couple of weeks while planning next brew!
