Yup - I used good old quaker porridge oats cos they were in the cupboard. Malted oats wouldn't be the same - it's the protein and cloudiness they add whereas malted oats (which are lovely ina stout) wouldn't give that effect at all. Same goes for the flour in the boil - that would be good old normal plain flour not 'brewers flour' .
