...and we're done.
Well, only one real problem. I didn't really think through getting the wort from the boil pot to the fermenter. This time I just chucked the hops in loose and they quickly blocked the tap on the boil bucket. I had to quickly sanitise my siphon and use that to get the wort from the boiler to the fermenter, pouring the last through a sieve. Rather more hand contact with the wort than I'd like, but hopefully I'll get away with it.
Anyway, it's all done and in the fermenter now. The final tally was about 16.5 litres at 1.060. At least a litre got left behind with the hops - a few things to think about for next time.
Well, next time will be a kit I think, but there will be more all-grains.
Boiling nicely:

....and chill:

So that's where half my wort went:

The magic number:

I think that's oxygenated enough:

Just need to decide now whether to give it another dose of oxygenation sometime tonight...

Could be you have images disabled in your browser.
I can see all as in gattys cereva in the kit section but thats about it.
Tried right clicking no worky.
Whats this browser issue you'll have to explain where it as i'm a bit thick when it comes to computers.

Thanks. Given that the yeast had such a hard time getting started I was very pleased to see a few bubbles going though the airlock last night and this morning it's bubbling away merrily. Can't wait for about three days time when most of the fermentation is complete and I can get an idea of how it will eventually taste.roger the dog wrote:DRB, try clicking on 'Tools' then 'Internet Options', click on the 'Advanced' tab & scroll down the list to the 'Multimedia' section & make sure the 'Show Pictures' option is ticked. That's about as far as my computer know-how extends I'm afraid.
Congrats on a succesful brewday Barry, great pics.
I will definitely start my starter a couple of days earlier in future if my yeast is getting a bit old - or maybe get some newer yeast.
...and here it is.
I normally take a test tube of the beer once I've pitched so I can get an idea of what's going on in the fermenter, and here it is. Looks like my transfer problems mean most of the cold break is still in there but hopefully racking to secondary in a few days will take care of that:

So, what happens if you go directly to the URL:DRB wrote:Show picture option is ticked still no piccies.

Gaaaaah, it's going mad now. My room temperature is 20deg.C, I've got wet towels round the fermenter and it's still 24deg.C, and fermenting like mad.
Well, I wanted to ferment at the fruitier end of the range, but I'm sure this can't be good for the flavour - hopefully leaving the window open overnight will help drop the temperature down a bit.
I have to buy a cheap fridge!
