Re: Elvis Juice!
Right...
Added the zest to the fermenter. Reckon it must have been 65c. I'll add yeast in the morning then dry hop/add more zest during the week. It's smelling INCREDIBLE.
My efficiency came in at a whopping 84%. Have never had this with BIAB before. New predicted ABV: 6.59%.
Ah well

When I did mine I steamed the whole fruit for a minute or two before zesting to kill any surface bugs, should suit the steep perfectly.floydmeddler wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 9:05 pmThinking about this too... Worried that boiling could drive off the precious aromas.
I'm doing no chill BIAB with this brew so I could leave it in there at 70c to cool down in the brewery. That's plenty of time to release the magic. F*ck it. That's what i'll do.

Re: Elvis Juice!
Ended up adding another 3 grapefruits' zest to secondary. So - 6 grapefruits' zest and 2 oranges' zest altogether.
Kegged it tonight. My god does it taste like grapefruit. Pretty hardcore. I knew it would be. Hopefully it'll mellow out some over the next few weeks in the keezer.
Tastes nothing like Elvis Juice yet and I doubt I'll get the same grapefruit flavour profile as them; I just don't believe that they use zest/peel only.
Will update more when this beer is ready for the glass.
Finished at 1.011 too. Has come in at 6.9% BOOM!

I found mine really became good after 3 months in the keg. In fact I tasted it alongside some bottled EJ and preferred mine.

This was in a 14.5L batch still right?floydmeddler wrote:Ended up adding another 3 grapefruits' zest to secondary. So - 6 grapefruits' zest and 2 oranges' zest altogether.

How big was your batch Orlando?
I'll try to get along to the brewery again soon and get some more info if possible, got the ingredients still sitting here for a batch!

Re: Elvis Juice!
I think I mentioned in the other Elvis Juice thread that I previously asked at the brewery about the grapefruit content and the barman (not a brewer) told me that they made some kind of extract on their pilot kit first. The mind boggles as to what that could be - some kind of grapefruit wine?
As I say I'll be there again soon and will try to ask a brewer!

Re: Elvis Juice!
Hi Floyd - any updates on how yours is tasting?
I can't get my car out of my drive today due to ice so getting this brew on finally! And sadly I haven't made it to the brewery again to ask for details...
Re-reading the recipe, it says to add the grapefruit peel to the FV, so I'll add it in a couple of days along with the dry hops.
I thought the PDF stated a standard boil time but buggered if I can find it now!
Hop timings are confusing - there are "flavour" hops marked as "middle" - I would have thought 45 mins would be a bit too long, but then again there is next to no bittering addition so is this some kind of middle ground?
