" Ditch's Stout " Master Class .....
Re: " Ditch's Stout " Master Class .....
Just bottled my first batch of Coopers Stout.
I deviated from the recipe slightly by adding, Coopers No2 enhancer and 200g of Black Treacle. I have to say, if you like treacle (AND I DO!!), this is gonna be heaven in a bottle. The treacle is a bit on the strong side straight out of the FV, but, after 3 weeks in the bottle it should be exqusite.
I promise I'll follow your recipe to the letter next time, Ditch.

Mickey; I'm past worrying about it now. If we cut this thread back to purely posts by people who have made their gear as I suggest? It'd probably amount to a two page thread.Mickey77 wrote:I promise I'll follow your recipe to the letter next time, Ditch.
Moment it even goes in a bottle, it's no longer what I'm talking about. But, so what? I'd just set out to offer the best advice I could on how to make what turned my screw. And I have the innate, Gypsy, ability to sell sand to Arabia. But; I need to feel that need, to make that sale. Frankly? I no longer do.
I wish you people to Really enjoy ye Coopers Stout ~ However ye make it. It's still the best damn basic out there; Whether ye want to make it into " Ditch's Stout " or " Mickey's Treacly Treat "

Re: " Ditch's Stout " Master Class .....
This is what my "Ditch's Stout " was made from and I'm drinking now.
1 can of Coopers Stout.
1 Kilo of Medium, dried malt.
100g glucose.
1 tescos campden tablet.
Hard tap water.
Brew length 19.5l
Tastes ok but next time I think I'll make it with 2 bags of muntons 1kg brew enhancer to make it kick a little more. Not sayings it's thin as it has loads of body I just would like to try in a bit stronger

Are you feckin mad? - this stuff is strong enough as it is. Admit I use 500g Demerara sugar as opposed to the glucose.Timo wrote:This is what my "Ditch's Stout " was made from and I'm drinking now.

Cool your jets!!!
Re: " Ditch's Stout " Master Class .....
Humm maybe just 1 bag of BKE 1kg and 1 bag of dry malt 500g would do and ditch the dry glucose.
Re: " Ditch's Stout " Master Class .....
is 'Ditch's stout' as quick to drink in bottle as it is in keg ? (sorry for not searching properly ... too many pages!),
i know it would be deviating from "the way" bottling it
but is it anywhere near as tasty if you use a bottle as a vessel as opposed to a keg (say drinking a week after fermentation has finished? (carbonation "issues" aside))
thankyouuuu!

Don't see why not - it would be flat though - I bottled it and even after a few days it was carbonated and very good to drink.poo hed wrote:is 'Ditch's stout' as quick to drink in bottle as it is in keg ?

so it DOES taste worse when bottled then? does anyone know why? (and how it differs if you can put your finger on it ?)
presumably it would be best off in 2l+ bottles then? if not a keg (i can't afford any more equipment)?
thanks!

Tasting update: Had a bottle after 4 days and it was... erm, 'challenging'
But I gave a 6-pack to my bottled-stout-loving uncle for Christmas and he got stuck in straight away (12 days) and loved it. I've only gotten around to trying another bottle now (14 days) and I reckon it's only deadly
It's like a beer made from espresso, only instead of making your heart race it makes your head spin

Yeah. I can live with that. I have a keg here I'm taking into town. Giving it to a friend of mine.SOS_OPA wrote:It's like a beer made from espresso, only instead of making your heart race it makes your head spin
I intend to warn him; He'd better like treacle! Because this stuff's about three or four litres short of water. It tastes like a direct threat.
Then it smacks ye so f**king hard, ye don't want to get up and face any more!

Terrible stuff!
