Shares mate. Barrett have put out a share offer. Last week or so they were at £2.70 each. They are now in the region of £1.60 due to the share offer at a discounted price(discounted share offer price went live this morning and share price dropped about a quid each). Its as sure a bet as you can get. I bought some last year at £0.80 and sold about 6 weeks back for £2.40. Thought i'd spread the news and hopefully some Jim's guys can make a few quid!

This is beer related as you can buy brewing gear with the profit. 8)

Thanks Pants, flow meter on order.

I've got a bit too much exposure in oils at the moment, Hardy is doing nicely, but Dragon still won't pick up properly from the rumours earlier (still, 6.5% up on them is better than a bank). Otherwise it would have been difficult to lose money on shares since about Feb/March :D

Doing 1st brew tonight, went fast and ugly in the finishing stages of the build to get a brew on! 1st thing of note is that the Speck pumps don't like to lift fluid 5 ft up so if anyone knows of a good fluid pump for pumping hot liquor and transferal of wort to fermenter and lift a 5 ft head i would be much obliged. Apart from that its going great guns, will crack on to late tonight and get the whole brew done. Aiming for about 60lts of a B&T clone but much better(well i would say that). Woohoo 60 ltrs bring on the beer! :D Great to be working at my height and not crouched down too much!

Sounding good pants!!

Something funny with the Spec though. The Spec's spec (sorry  ) says up to 50 feet.
My "bottom" pump is pushing boiled water from the boiler up to the HLT with no bother at all and that's closer to six feet.
I have only run mine above it's stated max. liquid temperature of 80C on a couple of occasions but it coped at lower heads - could it be that?
Otherwise, I found that mine did not like bits of grain or hops in the impeller; I have had to back flush twice before being more careful.

Perhaps Brewzone has more ideas??

Cheers for the advice Befuggled. I think i will remount my pump to get a better head pressure to the pump, might be asking a bit much of it at the moment. The brew went really well last night. A few shots below. I really like this working at my natural level. The real surprise was how clear the wort was after recirculation through the grain bed. Also wort was clear as a bell running into the FV. Best i've done yet by as long way, almost no trub out of the bottom of the conical this morning. Totally missed my strike point for the mash but hey ho and all that. Overall the brew was a doddle, so much so i had 3 pints while doing it! The clean up today went well. The systems not perfect but its a great big leap forward from what i did before.

55 ltr brew in the end after losses
Blonde and spicy
6 Grms Gypsum
6.00 kg Lager Malt
2.00 kg Wheat Malt,
0.40 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt
0.25 kg Caramalt
3.00 oz Northdown [7.00 %] (60 min)
1.50 oz Hallertauer Hersbrucker (25 min)
4.00 oz Hallertauer Hersbrucker (5 min)
4.00 oz Styrian Goldings [4.00 %] (1 min)
0.9 kg Heather Honey
SG 1.040

Image
Recirc of wort 1st couple of seconds
Image
After about 5 minutes it was crystal, i kept recirculating after starting run off and throughout sparge as the recirc pump T's off the line running from the MT to the copper
Image
Image
The reason for the whole thing
Image
Slightly showing off check out how clear the run off into the FV is!
Image
This was last night, still a bit warm. Sitting at 1040 this morning.
Image
Swiftly extended my old cooler mid brew and pulled the temp to 36 in a 1/2 hour
Image
And that's that.

Cleaned up and ready for next brew.

Way to go Pants!! =D> =D> =D> =D>

A few pumps and a bit of permanent set-up make it so much easier!!!

(I still have to sit on a stool while slowly draining off into the FV and fiddling with the wort and cooling water flow rates, but there's plenty of places to put a pint!   )

Cheers Mate, Its been great to bounce ideas off you and vice versa over the past few weeks. Same goes to everyone else who contributed. Many thanks to you all.

There are distinct advantages to being over 40! \:D/ :boff: :out, none of these things phase you so building a brewery is just a 'normal' part of it.

19 hours after pitching yeast, strange sculptures appearing.

I should have mentioned, the Specs I have sometimes need priming, not just a reasonable inlet head.
With all the valves I have to fiddle with, this is not a problem, but you might want to consider an easy way to let the air out of the oulet pipework.
You know, like a decompression nipple  . ohhh errr its Playtex all over again, I had better lie down in a dark place for a while

What is it? I could only find incoming mains water meters and/or petrol flow rate monitors.
I have been relying on the sight tubes on the vessels and I keep forgetting how far I've got! #-o
Likewise - I always forget how far down my sight gauge as well.
Must have a flowmeter. Digital would be brill, but i'm not spending big wads.
Check out the beers we have for sale @ Mix Brewery

Don't need digital mate, and certainly no big wads. :) They are very accurate, not re settable but that just means you work out your figures before opening the tap if you are measuring fluid into the system. Guess they can be used at other points in the system as well. VERY glad i got one, 1 less thing to obsess over!

Ace job pants, arrived today despite the postie's strike!!

Now all I need to do is find a pencil and write down the start figure!! :D
( I suppose I could have done that with the sight gauge but they don't call me techy-dork for nothing!!!)
You should have seen me night sea fishing with a cold light near the end of the line many years ago.
Caught bugger all as usual #-o
