I finally got around to brewing this last night.

Cascadew

11.5L Brewlength
OG 1.038 @ 22C
1 x 1.5kg Can of Woodfordes Sundew
9g of NZ Cascade pellets steeped for 45mins (In extract tin with boiling water, then added to fv, hops and all!)
25g of NZ Cascade pellets dry hopped (Added directly to the wort once primary has died down for 5-7 days)
6g of Kit Yeast
Fermentation @19-20C

If this turns out well, I may brew the other tin with Citra pellets. ......

It certainly needs something to pep it up a bit, I would imagine any good dry hopping variety will work well with the Sundew kit!

As fermentation has slowed, I added the remainder of the NZ Cascade pellets + plus dust last night

The gravity has settled at 1.008 (4.0%), so now that it's day 14, this brew is going to be chilled to 3C for a few days before bottling next week.

This Sundew adaptation had been in the bottle for 1 week yesterday, so I thought that I better try one.

Image

It's not totally clear, but better than the picture shows for some reason.

I think my NZ Cascade had probably lost the best of it's aromas, because it had been opened late last year and then resealed and frozen. This has resulted in a minimal aroma in the glass, but there are subtle citrus/floral flavours.

It actually complements the kit quite well and has helped with the slight sweet aftertaste that I got from a standard Sundew.

I will be getting amongst this brew (ala ditch) fairly soon, as it suits late summer drinking perfectly :)

When it comes to the second Sundew adaptation, I will use a fresh pack of hops to see how much difference it makes.

But what hop to choose. .............

Sounds like a nice combo there Mun, but I haven't got any of those hops either ](*,)

Here is what I currently have got-

Amarillo
Amarillo Pellet
Apollo
Aurora
Brewers Gold
Centennial
Chinook
Citra Pellet
East Kent Goldings Pellet
First Gold
Fuggles Pellet
Goldings
Liberty Pellet
Magnum
Nelson Sauvin
Nugget
Progress
Simcoe
Target

I take it that those amounts are for a full 23L brew?

I agree that a short 5 min boil + a decent dry hop could be the way to go for the next brew though :)

Cheers

As SWMBO and my daughter have decided to go camping in the garden tonight, I have made use of being home alone and put together another brew.

This time I am brewing with 1 can from the Woodfordes Admirals Reserve (32pt) kit. I will be brewing the other can as standard, because I tasted my mates brew a few weeks ago, and really enjoyed it. But this brew is being brewed nearer to the Woodfordes Headcracker (24pt) kit.

Hopefully this brew will be coming good around Xmas/New Year [-o<

Admirals Cracker

7L Brewlength
1 x 1.5kg Can of Woodfordes Admirals Reserve
6g of EKG Pellets 5.90%AA boiled in the rinsed wort from the can for 10mins
7g of Coopers Ale Yeast
OG 1.060
Fermenting in the cupboard under the stairs between 21- 22C
