Started my Muntons Smugglers special ale on Saturday morning,
fermenting @ 20 deg C with Gervin Ale yeast (AKA Nottingham) and some yeast vit thrown in.
I did a hydrometer reading tonight and found it to be 1014-1016.
It's only then that I realized that I have added too much water and I have 26 litres in my fermenter not 23 (What a dickhead !!)
What effect will this have on the final product?I know it will be a "watered down beer", the kit says it will make 40 pints of ABV 5% so will I just get a beer which is thinner and slightly less alcoholic. I would prefer it less alcoholic anyway.
Is there a calculation to work out alcoholic strength of the wort according to volume?
It had a perfectly good first head (now subsiding) and it smells fine.
Does anyone still drop anymore? (I used to 10 years ago but the forums suggest that's not the way to go now.)
I will recheck the gravity on Thursday and if its the same (or less) I will drop or keg as per the advice anyone can give me.
Thanks
