Day off today, and brewing this recipe (trying to hone a house bitter):
ABV 4.1%
IBU 30
Pale 3.75 kg
Medium Crystal 160g
Biscuit Malt 170g
Home toasted pale malt 150g
Torrified Wheat 100g
Challenger 40g full boil
EKG 30g steep at turn off after 80°
Brewlab TVIII yeast
Brewday: Berts Best 2
All done by 10pm, not sure how I took that long
Got 5 gallons on the nail at 1044, so my eff was better than expected.
My hop strainer was blocked, the EKG hops looked like floor sweepings so I think that was the culprit. I bailed it through a sieve into the fv with a sanitised plastic jug so there is much gunk on top of the yeast head this morning.
This is the first time I've used the Brewlab yeast Steve, but I've heard good reports.
Phil, my last two batches have tried out the biscuit and I like the rounded flavour it gives. Those were with Gervin (R.I.P!) so will be interesting to see how the malt profile shapes up with a new yeast
