I have heard John Bull Stout is good, Dont know about a Mild, the only mild kit I have seen is a Geordie Kit at Wilkos. I would always use spray malt.

I'm no expert on milds either, I wasn't too impressed with Brupaks Honley Mild, and IIRC the Geordie tastes not unlike the bitter (a problem with most of the Geordie 'beer' type kits). I was given another Geordie Mild kit as a gift, but I haven't got round to doing it yet...

The John Bull Masterclass 3Kg kit is very good, and the Cooper's Stout is excellent too. Use Spraymalt with the Cooper's, as MM says. Both need a good period of maturing before they reach their best, ideally a couple of months. You should be able to make something similar to bottled Guinness Original, you can't get the creamy draught head without force carbonating with a Nitrogen/CO2 mix.
