Been at it since 8am hehe. Sorry, no pics.. My girlfriend has taken my camera to Poland with her – hence I`m brewing all day. This only happens once a few years so I`m taking advantage of it!!
Still very new to beer making (I`m a wine maker really). I`ve just made my first large (5 gallon) batch. That`s large for me.. This one`s a very simple batch, I call it Nanny`s Knickers. Since they`re hanging drying in my living room at the moment. Don`t ask!
Prep 3 gal tap water with ½ campden tab
Boiled up 57g fuggles and 32g goldings in 1 gallon pot (no boiler) for 90 mins
Boiled 1.6kg tin John Bull light LME and 1kg Muntons light DME in separate 1 gal pot for 60 mins
Irish moss into malt pot, as usual
Both hot pots poured into the cold 3 gal reserved in the fermenter to cool wort
346g brown sugar stirred in afterwards to bring gravity up to 40 (it was a bit low at 32)
12g goldings dry hopped
Safale s-04 yeast
I hope this turns out ok!! It was really a guess and a bit of an experiment, since I didn`t have all the ingredients to follow a tried and tested recipe. Next batch this afternoon will be even more simple, but a scale-up from my third ever 1 gallon batch that I did in the winter which was pretty good..
1250g Muntons light DME
75g goldings
800g demarera sugar
200g black treacle
And that`s it. Believe it or not it was not bad at all. Might actually step-up the hops, or dry hop it too. I like hoppy
