coopers stout 1st brew

gonna start tomorrow as first brew any tips would be good went to brew shop told me to follow tin instructions and just add brewing sugar

This is a really nice stout. I did mine using .5kg of spray malt and 700g of glucose which gave me 1044 SG to 1004 FG, so there are plenty of fermentables in there. IIRC i used the yeast with the kit.

A cracking pint.

what does spray malt do?
take it glucose just substitute for sugar
thought as first brew ive done will just follow instructions this time

The spray malt just adds more body, although stouts have that in volumes normally so you'll be just fine with glucose - all the stout kits ive done with glucose have turned out succesfully.

you use it in direct replacement with glucose, only it has a quantity of non fermentable sugars so it finishes slightly higher and thus gives a beer more body (roughly speaking). The effect is more noticable in lighter ales.

its certainly something to consider if you like nice beer, and i think thats a given. :D
