I made up an Admiral's Reserve kit on the Sunday before last (some of you will remember!) and I kegged it on Monday. Till now it's been sitting at 20C. I also put 1 litre in an empty pop bottle and have been keeping it next to the keg. The litre bottle is now very pressurized and I thought it might be time to move them both to a cooler spot (cue warm weather!).
I have wondered about putting the bottle in the fridge though. That would certainly cool it, but to well below the recommended 12C. What are the issues here? Why shouldn't I do that? Surely it'll drop bright even faster, and I can see what it tastes like?
Chilling my ale
Put the keg and bottle in shed or garage (as long as not too warm) for another 4/5 weeks and then they will be ready to drink. Keep somewhere out of sunlight. I keep my kegs in shed which is dark. Gets a little bit warm sometimes but never had any problems even in really warm weather. Big tip is patience. If you have a pint after couple of weeks it will be OK but I always find that leaving for about 6 weeks from when originally kegged gives a much clearer and nicer pint.
