Hi all.
How does this look for a first attempt at BeerSmith, do you think it Will taste O.K?

30% crystal malt seems rather a lot to me, you might find it overpowering.
Colour is more likely to be 75 EBC or thereabouts too.

try 300gms crystal and 150gms of black malt/roast barley

Thanks for the replies, I might try 1000g of crystal.
I'm trying to emulate a local brewery near me, "Acorn Brewery" they brew Barnsley Best Bitter and Barnsley Glory, plus loads of others.

FYI, most recipes call for no more than 5% crystal or it gets overpowering.

Just to reiterate what others have said. That %'age of crystal will give you an unbalanced and cloyingly sweet beer.5 up to 10 % max is the standard for Bitters I'm told.

BB ask the acorn brewery what % of crystal malt they use. In line with what others have posted I'd use no more than 400g of crystal in a brew with 4000g of pale malt.
FWIW in the 25l brew for Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild there's 980g of crystal in 5540g of Pale malt (17.5%), but this produces a vastly different beer to a Best Bitter.

In Graham's book, the recipe for Cameron's Strongarm is heavy on the Crystal (16%) and apparently produces a nice red colour.

I hope Graham doesn't mind me reproducing the details;
62% pale Malt
16% Crystal
8% Flaked Maize
14% Maltose Syrup (I wonder if this helps thin the crystal a bit)

ABV 4.1% and hopped to 32EBU, described as 'round malt and fruit with long dry finish and vanilla hints'.

I might make this my next brew :)

The most crystal i've used is 14% in a mild. I wouldn't go any more than that.
