Gale's Prize Old Ale

Hi all,
A mad recipe for you. But I had to do it as my Holden's Old Ale 8.1% is about 1/2 empty and need a replacement for it in about 8 months :)

Pale Malt 7.000g
Black Malt 50g
Flaked Wheat 145g

Malt Extract 2,450g
Goldings 33g 90mins
Fuggles 95g 90mins
Goldings 40g Flame out

The Grain Bill

Mashing was getting hard work

Also a tight fit!!

Glad the Sparging Arm is adjustable!!

Gravity reading before boil or adding extract!

2.450g Extract

5 Gallons collected. Only 4 in the FV with 2 Nottingham yeast. The other gallon in a Demi John being fermented with Thomas Hardy's Ale Yeast.

The final gravity is a mystery. Its more than 1.100 but I cant tell you what because the Hydrometer only goes up to 1.100...
Oh well. After 1 week the FV is down to 1.025 and still has bubbles on top. The DJ is down to 1.018 and has been bottled for storage.... Good old job :)

Cheers
Russ
