I love Candi?

Post by PMH0810 » Fri Aug 29, 2008 8:45 am

I have just received my Grand Cru for brewing for Xmas with 1 KG of Candi Crystals; now I have two questions.

1) Kit calls for 500g of sugar or 525, of candi sugar. Does this sound about right? Recommended quantities otherwise please.

2) Candi Crystals are offputting visually - they don't look like they'd dissolve with ease. Comments/Tips please?

In the meantime I'm thoroughly enjoying the Chimay/Gauloise/Orval/Leffe I'm having to drink to get the empties I need.

Dissolve them in hot water, pitch them in with the boiling water to dissolve the kit, then top off as normal.

Fair enough - thank you for that!

If I hold some crystals back, can I use them to prime at a rate of 1 crystal per 1/2 pint bottle (for example)?

Tough work this homebrewing lark, eh?

I would just use plain sugar to prime, if you're worried about the crystals dissolving.
