Recommendations/suggestions sought

Okay, I'm drinking my Wherry now, and very pleased with the results of what is my first brew. Muntons traditional bitter due to be bottled tomorrow. Now, SWMBO doesn't like Wherry (too hoppy!) so I'd like to do something she will enjoy. She does, after all, drink beer! To give you an idea, her favourite brew is probably Badgers Golden Glory. Those who've had it will know what I'm after. Those that haven't; well it's very floral in taste and aroma. Rather nice actually. So, can anyone recommend a kit which will go some way towards producing a beer that SWMBO will enjoy? Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Can't think of anything like Golden Glory (they use peach blossom i think).......but try one of the Brupaks range for a change.....also follow the method on 18000feet.com to make it ........much much better results than supplied instructions.

if 'er indoors likes the floral side of beer, then maybe trying something with blossom in it will suit.

Get a light beer kit (dont spend shed loads if your going to doctor it), maybe something like coopers austrailian pale ale, and make the kit as is.

However,

Put about a fistfull of dried elderflowers (youngs do them, as do others and im sure you can get them online) and either steep them in a kettleful of water prior to pitching it in with the volume of water, or put them in a muslim bag and leave them in the primary Fv for the duration till bottled, or further still, use them as a dryhop, and put them in a barrell (hard to do if you bottle).

a friend (and poster on here 'sheepy') made a lager style beer with elderflowers and it was really refreshing and floral - my missus really got on well with it and i think its spot on for what your after. If i speak to sheepy (probably later) ill get him to post his recipe.

hope this helps

Many thanks to all who posted. Some interesting ideas.

Chris, if you do get to speak to Sheppy, let me know what he says. I'd be most interested.

Cheers! :)

Hi,

The kit I knocked up was a Coopers Aussie Pale Ale. To it I added 500g glucose and 500g medium spray malt. This i disolved in a large pan and got to simmering point at which point I added 12.5g of dried elderflower petals and about 25g of first gold and 25g of saaz hops and left for 10 minutes. This was all chucked in the fv (without the bag of goodies) with the kit and made up to about 18 litres. Tasted rather nice too
