First AG- Done!

Post by Russ » Sun Nov 02, 2008 1:23 pm

Early start this morning for my first AG, went for 6 gallons of Styrian stunner and batch sparged.

Boiler switched on at 5.45 am
Pitched yeast at 11.30am

Would have been quicker but it took my boiler 45 mins to get the water up to strike temp :( . Next time I'll set a time switch and have the 45 mins in bed!

All went very smoothly 8) much easier than I thought- didn't miss measuring out extract one bit :!: Overshot the OG (aiming for 1040 but got 28 litres at 1045) the grain bill was 5.5kg of pale malt.

It all fitted in my mash tun with plenty of room to spare- despite my initial concern #-o (see previous post viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17328 )

Thanks for the help!, Cant wait to try the results [-o<

Well done Russ. It's nice to see that I am not the only early morning brewer on here!

Congratulations on your first brew. 5.45am? Way too early for the likes of me, 5.45pm is more likely. :D

Cheers all

Yep 5.45am is a bit early for a Sunday  (although this is my usual, week-day get up time :( )

However doing it this early allows me to get the initial stages done in the kitchen and tidied away before the rest of the family get up. From run off onwards I retire to the garage. Also means I have time after lunch for family stuff. All helps keep SWMBO sweet
