Milestone Black Pearl.

Post by Robdog » Sat Nov 08, 2008 3:56 pm

Just had a sample bottle of this which was bottled 2 weeks ago today.

Its cleared well already and tastes cracking. A nice strong stout taste with liquorice aftertastse and a strong roasted malt flavour is the best i can describe it. Its a little bit harsh at the very end so another 2 weeks in the shed it will bang on. I could sit and get drunk on it right now but im not going to.

This was my first brew so im chuffed and time wil just make it better.

Theres not much of a head on it now but im assuming another 2 weeks or so conditioning will create more carbonation and give a better head then?

Robdog,

Glad your first brew went well. I have a black pearl at the same stage (more or less as yours). Had a sneaky taste when bottling and it was a nice, complicated brew, loads of flavour. I would recommend leaving this for a few weeks (Perhaps 'til Christmas?) It will just get better and better and if you are shelling out £18 (ish) for a kit like this I reckon it's woth leaving until it reaches it's peak.

Good to hear the stout came out okay! I know it's hard to resist, a month or three will improve it no end, as clootie suggests. A few weeks will improve the head, but in the meantime, make sure any glasses (or serving jugs, etc.) you use are spotlessly clean, without any residue of grease or washing up liquid. A final rinse in very hot water usually does the trick.
