Chill haze
Chill haze
Hi all,
Just pulled my first pint, 7 days in the cornie. It tastes very nice but is far from clear. Chill haze is my problem and im wondering if I can clear it or not ? I have a feeling it due to my slow cooling of the wort, have invested in a wort cooler now, but can I do anything to it to clear ?
At present it is stored in the shed where it is around 3C, maybe its too cold ? I dont have anywhere else to store the keg really apart from room temperature, about 22C.
Thank you for any help,
Joel

Re: Chill haze
I doubt there was much wrong with your process i would guess nearly every homebrewed beer would be hazy at 3 C, if you leave it out there it will over the course of a few weeks drop out the haze leaving you with a crystal clear ice cold beer

Re: Chill haze
Also.....if it's the first pint from the corny, you should expect the first pint or two to be cloudy as the dip tube will pull some of the sediment through at first.
Re: Chill haze
Cheers. It will have another 3 - 4 weeks left untouched, well apart from a weekly sample lol, so fingers crossed I can get it looking as good as it tastes.
Re: Chill haze
You might consider sawing off a 1/2" from your dip tube next time round so that your sediment stays sedimented

Re: Chill haze
In fairness I dont have much sediment, most of it has was left in the FV. Was actually surprised the first pint didn't have any yeast lumps or any hint of yeast taste or other oddities lol.
One benefit of the FV having a small amount of dead space is that the crap is left behind

Re: Chill haze
Also, rather than sawing off a piece of your dip tube, remove it from the cornie and bend it a little so that the tube doesn't sit directly over the bottom 'dimple' of the keg. Works for me.
Re: Chill haze
Thank you for the help guys, will see what it looks like next week.
I dont like the beer the cold really but is the only place I have that is cold. I dont have a cellar or beer fridge.
