Only just got around to posting about last week's brewing!
I did a mini-mash for this (10L brewlenght):
200g crystal malt + 50g chocolate malt + 50g Rauchmalz
mash with 2.5l at 50C raise to 70C
Boil with 750g DME
100g golden syrup
30g Northern Brewer 70min
15g Bramling Cross 5
I put this onto the yeast cake from my X Ale and it went like a rocket and was fermented out in three days!
Update:
I bottled this on Thursday and noticed a farmyard/manure type of aroma. I realise the beer is still very young so I'm not too concerned about it. I'm just wondering what could cause this. It's something I've noticed before in commercial beer too (Greenmantle Ale used to have). Warm fermentation? Hops? Sugar?
