hello all, i am new to this homebrew game, i have recently purchased a kit from my local homebrew shop, and i am wondering how to get the best results for lager the guy said to bottle it in pop bottles or similar.
has any one done coopers lager before and had great results.
and can you barrel it rather than bottle it ?
(newbee) and i dont know what the abbreviations mean either so if peeps could speak properly it would be much appreciated
many thanks
andy
coopers australian lager
Re: coopers australian lager
hi andy
checkout brewing terms... at the top of this forum
my first kit was a coopers lager and while it didnt taste much like any lager i know, it brewed quickly, cleared quickly, was nice and fizzy
and and chilled down properly was a good intro back into home brew.
ive bottled all my brews since and with the higher pressures needed for most lagers think its probably the way forward.

2 litre pet bottle or smaller (500ml "slam" bottles are great but not as readily available) table spoon of sugar, job done.
when serving get a pitcher and pour it into that and don't forget to chill. four hours is the job

Re: coopers australian lager
for the best results you have to use lager yeast the one provided with the kit is an ale yeast and in my experience it ferments to quickly (they recommend between 21 and 27*c)at that temp it will ferment vigorously for 2 days and doesnt give you the clean crisp taste your after,(you get that syrupy twang )use saflager s23 and ferment at lower temp (i pitch at about 16*c )and usually takes about 10 days to ferment, also try spray malt or a beer kit enhancer to give ya beer a bit more body, and as the boys say ,always...always put ya lager in bottles..
