AG#15 Summers Here

Post by booldawg » Sat Mar 28, 2009 4:53 pm

Inspired by a Badgers 'Golden Glory' in the recipe section I customised it slightly and brewed:

Summers Here 20L

3000g Pale Malt
180g Torrified Wheat
170g Flaked Maize
135g Crystal Malt

56g Challenger - 36 IBU
20g Dried Elderflowers - 15 mins
20g Goldings - steep
Safale04

OG 1040

On cleaning the boiler I discovered I'd forgotten the hop strainer..again  Wondered why the run off was so slow. I've done this before but realised before running off and used a sieve under the tap.

Doubt I'll get away without a lumpy wort as the elderflowers will make it past the tap along with the hop seeds

Looks like a good brew nonetheless, i brewed something similar about a month ago, just waiting for it to bottle
condition as i cant wait to try it.
I had to use Bodicea as i had no Challenger, but i also used Fuggles as opossed to your Goldings.
Oh and only 15g of Elderflower, i thought about using 20g but then thought i could always up it
next time if its not Elderflowery enough, so similar ish.

Hope it turns out ok for you, keep us posted.

Thanks Haz, I think it was your postings in the recipe section that inspired me to brew this!

Also realised 5 hours after pitching I'd forgotten to add the aroma hops as well! I just bunged them in the FV without a hop bag as I usually dry hop in the boiler and not geared up for this technique.

I'll have to use a siphon tube with gauze wrapped round the end and transfer to a bottling bucket, there's no doubt hop seeds and pieces of hop and elderflower all over the wort.
