Black Sheep Best Bitter

After a rather late start i`ve gone with a recipe out of Graham Wheelers book,
I`ve slightly amended the grain bill and hop quanties, as i wanted to use 3500g of MO
instead of the 3340g stated, i`ve also used Roasted Barley instead of Black Malt.
I also looked at the wrong figure for the Crystal when adjusting it so i`m actually a bit
down on the crystal, i worked it out based on the 19 ltrs amount instead of the 23 ltrs

So this is what i`m brewing.

3500g MO
409g Wheat
169g Crystal
9g Roasted Barley
25g Boddicea (AA 5.6%) @ 60 mins
13g Fuggle (AA 4.8%) @ 60 mins
13g Goldings (AA 5%) @ 60 mins
Protafloc @ 20 mins
13g Fuggle (AA 4.8%) @ 10 mins
12g Safale S04 Yeast.

Target 23 ltrs @ 75% Eff OG1041
BU:GU Ratio 0.76
IBU`s 31.16

Its now 30 mins into the boil so i`d better get back and attend to it.

I drank the Best Bitter all through my wedding day, and the "Ale" and also the Riggwelter are brilliant.

They really taste like they are beers of heritage - although I know they only came about due to a family spat over the sale of Theakstons to S&N.

Still love Theakston's too

Yeah its going ok, its now sat in the FV bubbling away.

They do brew some nice beers, just hope mine turns out close.
Thought about having a go at the Riggwelter once i get to Barley Bottom
and get some Chocolate Malt, as its the only thing i`m missing.

I've done the Riggwelter. After a week of conditioning in the cornie it was sampled and tasted sublime, so much so that with the help of my son and my dad, the keg was dry within the week so it never did get to condition. However, I have since brewed it again and this one I am determined to leave for longer. The temptation to hook it up to the chiller and try it is very hard to resist though.
