I have bottled my first two brews. I have primed by adding sugar to each bottle but I have two fermentation bins so I could easily syphon the beer off into a second bin and mix all the sugar in one go and then bottle.
With this in mind are there any pros/cons of priming per bottle or in bulk?
Pros/cons to priming in bulk or per bottle?
Re: Pros/cons to priming in bulk or per bottle?
Apparently priming in bulk is more consistent. Personally, all I can see is a greater risk of infection and oxidation so I consistently pop 1/3 tsp glucose into each bottle instead

Re: Pros/cons to priming in bulk or per bottle?
hi xpers
ive done both ways and personally prefer putting my sugar straight into each bottle.
i found with the last two wherrys, bulk priming, they took ages to clear afterwards. probably because no matter how gently you stir
to make sure you get even distribution, it must rouse up some sediment.
er indoors has got a set of kitchen measuring spoons and some nifty electronic scales which i use to determine the correct
amount of sugar i need for each bottle.
then with my sanitised spoon and funnel it takes no time to pop a spoonful in each one.
ive also used sugar cubes in the past. tate n lyles finest weigh 3g each which is convenient, [search `ooh bloody hell` for my edme lager fiasco]

Re: Pros/cons to priming in bulk or per bottle?
ive only primed bottle by bottle when i did a grand cru in 750ml bottles as it was only 12 bottles but other than that i always bulk prime, its just loads easier. i normally put the sugar in about a cup or so of water then chuck it in the microwave and keep stirring until it dissolves. given the microwave i cant see anything getting in and infecting and i never bother stirring it up after adding the liquid. i just try to pour it very slowly all over the top of the beer to try and distribute fairly well. I think it basically comes down to what suits you best method wise. either way happy drinkin'
Re: Pros/cons to priming in bulk or per bottle?
I add directly to each bottle using an accurate teaspoon measure, but I'm only doing a dozen 2L PETs at a time.
If I was priming 40-50 500ml bottles, and I may well convert to glass myself, I think I would be more inclined to bulk prime in a bottling bucket, but not in the FV.
