first time brewer, question!

Post by LENNON » Fri Jul 17, 2009 3:57 am

alright, so after a bit of reading i finally went out last night and bought a starter kit! also bought a "BARONS premium beer kit".. it came with a pre mixed concentrate wort baggy.. anyway! i got it all mixed up, left it over night, then at lunch today when i came home there was about half an inch of green foam on the top of it.. i'm completely new to this so i'm not 100% on this, is it O.K.? i did add a baggy of hop pellets that came with it, so maybe thats it? any help would be awesome! thanks, and i'm very excited getting into this!

Congratulations. :D

The foamy stuff on top is called "kraeusen", and is a normal product of fermentation.
The green colour is caused by your hops, again all perfectly normal.

Leave it alone to do its job, and go and have a beer to celebrate you being a "daddy" to your first brew. 8)

thank you good sir! once i get the hang of the whole brewing process i'll move up and make my own wort, then start playing around with recipes! i dont know why every beer drinker doesn't try this.
