Hi Chaps, Just looking for a bit of advice. I'm looking to do someting different from the lagers and pale ales i have recently done. I love the Asda extra special Whitechapel Porter, Has anyone tried the Muntons Docklands Porter? If so is this a similar thing ? or any other comparison would be welcome .
Thanks as always..
Docklands Poter
Re: Docklands Poter
Hi,
I have not tried that particular porter but have tried other porter kits with good results. I like my porters a little stronger so I added some extra LME and some brewing sugar, turns out great. I find if you add extra fermentables to the brew then it benefits from longer primary and secondary fermentation and also longer conditioning.

Re: Docklands Poter
I did a " Docklands Porter ". It was very nice. But, it was nice because it was almost free. Because I'd made it myself. And because I didn't want to buy any cans of Guinness to replace it, while it lasted - which wasn't long. Because I guzzled loads of the stuff with no great effects.
Because I found it sweet. Weak. Light years away from what I'd call a " Porter ". It'd never cross my mind to try it again, frankly.
Light, sweet, refreshing? Yes. But; So is Icecream Soda. And I'd as soon pour That down my neck. Much sooner, actually.

I thought it was a pretty good it when i did it for my first kit but it isn't quite as rich as most porters are and tastes closer to a mild than a porter. definitely worth doing as a nice session beer to have in.

I'd whack on a Coopers Dark ale, its a cracking pint, ferments out fully and isbloody tasty.
